About HPEC – HP Environmental Commission

The Borough of Highland Park has an Environmental Commission.

The Environmental Commission may conduct research into the use of open land areas of the Borough, keep an index of all public or private open space areas, and may recommend to the Planning Board programs for the development ands of such lands. The Commission review the potential effects of site applications before the Planning Board and the Zoning Board, provide environmental information to residents. The commission consists of eight member, and meetings generally held the first Wednesday of the month (except when in conflict with religious holidays, see link to the Environmental Commission calendar) in the Eugene Young Environmental Education Center (20 River Road). Meeting are open to the public. There is no meeting in August.

Environmental Commission meeting will occur on regular calendar dates. The Zoom contact information will be provide on the Borough of Highland Park’s website www.hpbooro.com on the front page several days before the meeting.

The Environmental Commission has stewardship over The Meadows  –the 18 acres open space at Valentine Street, S.5th Ave , and Southside  Bicycle path. It is adjacent to the Raritan River. The Meadows has a loop trail. The Meadows is maintained by the following volunteers –  who are known as the Meadows Trail Crew.
